I first want to state that I am all for the WGA members to get everything they are asking for during their strike. They are getting ripped off and I understand completely. However, what they did with the Golden Globes is ludicrous and should have never been done.
I understand why the writers did it, this cancellation will cost NBC over 20 million dollars. It hurts them and that forces them to consider settling. However, awards are sacred and not because of the f*king red carpet or the music act in between, but for the moments when a low-profile actor finally gets there moment in the sun. The first time nominees have been waiting their whole lives to go to this show, wonder if they'll win and maybe even do. But instead, if they do win, they get to watch it on television and wait for their Fed-Ex box with the award a few days later. That's pretty sad and what's more, it's selfish on the writer's part. I hope they don't cancel the Oscars, while the Golden Globes are big, it doesn't compare to the ultimate awards show for everyone in the film industry. These people deserve to get the experience everyone else has gotten when they were nominated, they earned the right to get their show.
The writer's need to understand that, I know they were hoping the strike would be over by now; we all were. But it's not, and until it is keep boycotting TV shows, films, plays, etc. But leave the awards shows on their own, because while it matters to the production companies, there's an actor, actress, director, writer, producer, etc. that it matters much more to, and they deserve that one day.
